Wow, blew me away

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 6 December 2008 03:06 (A review of Yonkers Joe)

O.K. here it is. First let me tell you I saw it last night on VOD. Amazing, once again, Wow. I was expecting a gambling movie through and through what I got was one of the most compelling story I've seen in years. It was about this gambler who just breezes through life, no problems, no worries. Plan and simple just put food on the table, roof over your head kind of life. Everyday's a new hustle. Well one day he finds out he has to take on the responsibility of his Down Syndrome adult child. Right there I was taken to the next level by the writer/director Robert Celestino. The job he did both with this incredible cast is second to none. As for Chazz Palminteri this has to be his best work since Bullets over Broadway. Tom Guiry amazed me as he transformed into the role. Christine Lahti and Michael Lerner add to the drama like frosting on a spectacular cake. I could go on and on about this gem of a movie, all I can truly say out of my heart is you have to see it for yourself. It's well worth it. TT
